The Dallas Office of global law firm Jones Day played a key role in the successful effort by the city and its legal and corporate communities to become one of the first four sites ever to host a satellite office of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

“This is very good news for clients as well as lawyers,” said Hilda Galvan, a Dallas partner who chairs the Dallas Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section and spearheaded Jones Day’s work with the Bar, the Dallas Regional Chamber, and the Mayor’s Office to gather information for USPTO consideration. “The regional office here will help to cut backlogs, speed new applications, and ease face-to-face communications when issues arise.”

“We’re tremendously proud of Hilda’s work in helping bring us this important new piece of institutional infrastructure,” said Pat Villareal, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Dallas Office. “Intellectual property is a cornerstone of our regional economy and we will now have more resources to support growth and prevent logjams.”

A 1993 UT Law graduate, Ms. Galvan focuses on intellectual property litigation. She handles complex, high-stakes patent infringement cases in a myriad of technologies, including semiconductor equipment and processes, telecommunications, computer technology, software and internet applications, and circuit design.
