Texas law firm Vinson & Elkins has announced that it will open an office in Abu Dhabi. Vinson & Elkins also has an office in Dubai, making it the first American firm to have offices in both Middle Eastern legal centers. London energy partner Lewis Jones will move to Abu Dhabi to head the office as an administrative partner.

Dallas firm Gwinn & Roby has closed its doors. The defense firm once housed 200 attorneys in three offices throughout Texas. Source blame HB 4, a tort reform measure set in 2003, for the downfall of the firm.

Lanier Law Firm, a litigation firm based out of Houston, has announced the opening of a Los Angeles office. The firm, which opened a New York office in 2005, has placed counsel Shepard Hoffman and associate Julie Drenner in the West Coast branch.

The merger between Locke Liddell & Sapp PLLC and Lord Bissell & Brook LLP becomes official as of today. The new firm will be called Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP and has 700 attorneys in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, London, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Sacramento and Washington, D.C..

Haynes and Boone LLP has announced that Leigh Ganchan will soon head the firm’s Houston immgration practice. Ganchan is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as an Immigration and Nationality expert and has worked at the US Immigration and Naturalization Service. Additionally, she is currently the chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association Liaison Committee.

The new firm, which will be called Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP, will house over 700 attorneys and will have around $400 million is gross revenue. Fort Worth firm Kelly Hart & Hallman opened a Houston office this week. Partnering the new office ar James Derrick, David Hedges, Max Hendrick and J. Clark Martin, all of Vinson & Elkins. The office will hopefully grow to 21 attorneys, and the firm has an additional office in Austin. Kelly Hart & Hallman opened the Houston branch in order to optimize contact with large energy companies.

Houston- and Dallas-based firm Locke Liddell & Sapp has announced that all levels of attorneys will see a pay increase beinning retroactively on August 1st. Associates will start out at $160,000 and move to $170,000 their second year. Thirds years will earn $172, 500; fourth-years $175,000; fifth years $180,000; sixth years $185,000; seventh-years $190,000; and eighth-years $195,000.

Dykema Gosset P.L.L.C., a law firm based out of Detroit, announced this Wednesday that it will be opening a Dallas office. The new branch will be composed of commercial litigators, although Dykema hopes to expand to corporate, real estate and financial practices over the next few years. Darrell Jordan, the attorney who ran for mayor of Dallas last year, will head the new office.
