Bracewell & Giuliani LLP is representing Rockland Capital LLC, a private equity firm focused on energy-related investments, in its purchase of two separate power assets.

In the first transaction, Rockland Capital has agreed to purchase Beacon Power Corporation’s 20 MW flywheel energy storage plant in Stephentown, New York, along with most of the other assets of Beacon Power. Under the terms of the transaction, Rockland will pay cash and deliver a promissory note totaling $30.5 million and will assume additional funding obligations to the DOE of $6.6 million.

In the second transaction, Rockland has agreed to purchase the Eagle Point Power Facility, a 225 MW natural gas-fired merchant cogeneration power facility in Westville, New Jersey, from Sunoco, Inc. (R&M). The Eagle Point Power Facility is located in the middle of a refinery site owned by Sunoco, Inc. The facility has operated principally in a combined cycle mode since October 2009, when the refinery ceased operations. Financial terms for the Eagle Point transaction were not disclosed.
