Akin Gump advised Newfield Exploration Company in a deal announced July 29, in which the company signed a $588 million purchase and sale agreement for its Granite Wash assets to Oklahoma City-based Templar Energy LLC (operating through Le Norman Operating LLC). The sale will have an effective date of July 1, 2014, and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2014.

The Akin Gump team was led by oil and gas partner Michael Byrd. He was assisted by William Morris, also a partner in the oil and gas practice, and Cody Carper and Rahul Vashi, oil and gas counsel and associate, respectively.

Many others were also involved, including oil and gas partners Patrick Hurley, Shar Ahmed and Chris LaFollette; oil and gas associates Chris Centrich, Chase Armbrust and Marcella Burke; tax partner Thomas Weir; antitrust partner Paul Hewitt; litigation partner Marty Brimmage; and litigation counsel Lacy Lawrence.

Newfield’s legal team included Jonathan Curth, senior legal counsel who led the transaction for the company, and Eric Hillerman, assistant general counsel.
