Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that leading capital markets lawyer Matthew R. Pacey will join the Firm as a partner in the Houston office.

“Matt is a skilled securities lawyer with an especially strong background in energy transactions,” said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland’s Global Management Executive Committee. “His experience will broaden our transactional offering in Houston and complement our existing strong global capital markets practice.”

Mr. Pacey’s practice concentrates on capital markets transactions, corporate governance and compliance. He regularly represents private equity-backed companies in connection with initial public offerings, particularly in the upstream, midstream and oil field service sectors. He has extensive knowledge of master limited partnership (MLP) structures and has represented issuers or underwriters in more than 50 MLP financing transactions with aggregate proceeds of over $20 billion. He was previously a partner in the Houston office of Vinson & Elkins.

“We have had an overwhelmingly positive response to our growing team in Houston since we opened the office five months ago,” said Andy Calder, partner in Kirkland’s Corporate Practice Group in the Houston office. “Capital markets is an important component to the transactional practice we are building, and we have found a top-notch securities lawyer in Matt Pacey as the initial building block of our MLP and capital markets presence in Houston. We are excited to welcome him to the team.”

Mr. Pacey holds a J.D. with honors, Order of the Coif, from The University of Texas School of Law, and two B.A. degrees from Texas A&M University.

Mr. Pacey joins Kirkland three months after the addition of partners William Bos and Anthony Speier III to the Houston office. (Read about Mr. Bos and Mr. Speier here.) Kirkland opened the Houston office in April 2014 with partners Andrew Calder, Rhett Van Syoc, Benjamin Clinger, John Pitts, Amber Meek and William Benitez.
