Ryan Law, a national law firm focusing on federal and state and local corporate tax controversies, tax litigation, and tax planning, today announced that Robert W. Nuzum has joined the Firm as a Partner based in the Austin, Texas, office. Mr. Nuzum has more than 32 years of legal experience in tax planning, tax structuring, and tax litigation in the federal and state and local tax areas.

Mr. Nuzum’s federal tax practice encompasses corporate tax planning, corporate reorganizations and liquidations, partnership and LLC tax, individual tax, and tax controversies and litigation. He began his legal career in 1978 as a trial attorney with the Tax Litigation Division of the Office of Chief Counsel in Washington, D.C., where he tried cases in the U.S. Tax Court. Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, he developed and continues to practice in the disaster tax area, which includes federal and Louisiana new markets tax credits, GO Zone tax credits and incentives, and state tax incentives.

Mr. Nuzum’s state and local tax practice includes Louisiana corporate income tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax (Louisiana and local parishes), property tax, severance tax, motor fuel tax, occupational license tax, tax rebates, credits and incentives, and tax controversy and litigation.

Prior to joining Ryan Law, Mr. Nuzum was a partner in the New Orleans office of a major law firm. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer at tax seminars, including the Council On State Taxation (COST), State and Local Tax Committee of the American Bar Association, Tax Executives Institute (TEI), Southeastern Association Of Tax Administrators (SEATA), Tulane Tax Institute, and many other industry groups and associations. He also has authored numerous federal and state tax articles in professional journals.

Mr. Nuzum has been recognized in Chambers (2011 and 2012), Best Lawyers in America (2001-2012) and Super Lawyers (2005-2012) in the areas of Tax and Tax Litigation and Controversies. He also has been a Louisiana Board Certified Tax Law Specialist since 1985.

Mr. Nuzum is a graduate of Louisiana State University, Louisiana State University School of Law, and New York University School of Law, where he received his LL.M. Degree in Taxation. He is a member of the Louisiana, Texas, and District of Columbia Bars.
