An accomplished labor and employment lawyer has joined Fulbright in its San Antonio office.

Mario Barrera comes to Fulbright as a partner from Bracewell & Giuliani. An experienced litigator, Barrera has extensive experience as a first chair lawyer in cases involving race, national origin, sex (including harassment) and age discrimination.

“Mario is a talented trial lawyer, and our firm has a long history of success in the courtroom,” said Steven B. Pfeiffer, the Chair of Fulbright’s Executive Committee. “His knowledge and experience will benefit our clients with labor and employment needs.”

Barrera’s experience includes cases involving all types of discrimination and whistleblower claims, as well as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and non-competition issues. He also has tried cases dealing with workers compensation retaliation, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), First and Fourteenth Amendment cases, employment tort and contractual claims.

“Mario has a fine reputation for achieving successful verdicts in cases throughout Texas, but especially in the difficult venues of the Lower Rio Grande Valley and along the Gulf Coast,” said George Scofield, Partner-in-Charge of Fulbright’s San Antonio office. “He will reinforce our labor and employment practice both locally and firm-wide.”

Barrera provides legal advice and opinions on a variety of issues relating to labor and employment issues and has conducted employment investigation and training seminars for clients.

“I have respected Fulbright’s lawyers and their quality work for several years, and I look forward to working alongside them,” Barrera said. “I believe that my practice will be a good fit for what this firm offers its clients.”

Fluent in Spanish, Barrera received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and his B.A. from Pan American University. He is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in labor and employment law.

“Mario has helped his clients in both the state and federal courts, and if a case must be tried, he plays to win,” said Brian Greig, chair of Fulbright’s labor and employment practice. “He is a first-rate addition to our labor and employment team, since his experience in court helps him identify an avenue to the best result for the client.”
