Carl von Merz joins Kelly Hart Austin office. Carl von Merz has joined the firm as a partner in the Corporate & Securities Practice Group, Austin office. Carl von Merz’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity and oil and gas transactions. In particular, Carl von Merz advises on transactions involving the acquisition or divestment of oil and gas properties and the formation of partnerships, limited liability companies and other entities for energy related investments. He has also advised clients on cross-border transactions across Latin America, including in Mexico, Colombia and Brazil.

Prior to joining the firm, Carl von Merz served as Lead Legal Counsel in the Houston and Austin offices of Statoil, a Norwegian multinational energy company where he advised on the company’s most significant corporate and asset acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures in the U.S. He also advised on the company’s day-to-day operations in the Bakken, Eagle Ford and Marcellus shale plays. Prior to Statoil, von Merz practiced for seven years in the corporate and transactional sections of two international law firms.

Carl von Merz received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and earned his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Duke University.
