The global law firm Jones Day has announced that William H. Sultemeier has joined the Houston Office as a partner in the Energy Practice. With over 20 years of large law firm, general counsel, and transactions management experience, Mr. Sultemeier counsels clients on deal structuring and execution, regulatory trends and compliance, and board of director duties and strategies to improve and advance business goals.

“At this crucial moment for the energy industry, William’s significant experience in a wide variety of deals and projects throughout the energy industry, from both an in-house and outside perspective, and with an unmatched practical, solution-oriented approach, will be particularly welcome,” said Jeff Schlegel, the Houston-based partner who co-heads Jones Day’s global Energy Practice. “He will make a significant contribution to our practice, both in Texas and around the world.”

Mr. Sultemeier focuses on M&A, private equity and venture capital, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships across multiple sectors involving a range of complex international transactions. Besides the energy and oil and gas industries, he has extensive experience in health care, having served as general counsel and executive vice president of a private company in that industry. Mr. Sultemeier’s international experience includes working on M&A and securities transactions for extended periods of time in China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

“William is the second terrific energy transactions partner we’ve added in the last six months,” said Nancy MacKimm, Partner-in-Charge of the Houston Office. “He and Stephen Olson further enhance our office’s already formidable capabilities at a time when clients particularly appreciate getting the best legal and business counsel available.”

Mr. Sultemeier is a graduate of The University of Georgia (M.B.A.; Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society), Saint Louis University (J.D. magna cum laude; Phi Delta Phi; Order of the Woolsack) and Brigham Young University (B.S. magna cum laude).
