The litigation, intellectual property, and transaction law firm of Klemchuk LLP is pleased to announce that Jim Chester has joined the firm as a Managing Principal.

Jim Chester is a 20-year attorney and will lead the firm’s business & technology transactional practice. He joins the firm from Chester PLLC, a firm Jim founded in 2003.

“We are excited to add Jim Chester to our team,” said Managing Partner Darin Klemchuk. “Our clients will benefit from his experience and counseling on transactional, technology, and digital matters. With Jim’s addition, we have begun building our transactional and international law practices in addition to our litigation and intellectual property practices.”

Jim advises technology and knowledge-based companies regarding core business legal services to innovation-based companies doing business in the US, around the world, and online. His work encompasses a broad range of business transactions, including IP secret protection, licensing & enforcement, ecommerce, digital media and marketing, and international business. Jim’s unique background and practice experience make him an ideal legal counsel for software, app and video game developers, publishers and distributors, and his clients have published hundreds of software, app and game titles.

Jim has been named to the “Best Lawyers in Dallas” list by D Magazine (2014); being listed multiple times as a “Rising Star” (2008-09, 2011); and “Super Lawyer” (2013-17) by Texas Super Lawyer Magazine, a Thomson Reuters service; and being featured on the cover of Attorney at Law Magazine as “Attorney of the Month.” Jim is rated A/V Preeminent by Martindale, and enjoys a perfect 10.0 rating from Avvo.

In addition to Jim’s law practice, for 17 years he has served as an adjunct professor of law at Baylor University School of Law, teaching courses on International Trade Law and International Business Transactions. Jim is also an entrepreneur and inventor, having founded several technology and legal industry start-ups, creating a spice blend that is sold nationwide, and a developing salsa recipe that earned him 3rd Place honors in the State of Texas at a recent competition.

“As an entrepreneur, myself, I truly appreciate the issue and challenges faced by an innovation-based business,” states Chester. “In my law practice, I help my clients navigate the chaotic awesomeness of these dynamic enterprises. Merging my practice with Klemchuk gives me access to a broader range of IP and technology expertise, and allows us to bring more value and expertise to our clients.”
