The Houston complex commercial litigation and intellectual property firm Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos, Alavi & Mensing P.C., or AZA, is pleased to announce that intellectual property attorney Brian E. Simmons has joined the firm as Of Counsel.

Mr. Simmons focuses his intellectual property practice on patent and trade secret litigation, patent counseling, due diligence investigations and IP transactions.

“Few attorneys combine Brian’s legal skill and technical expertise,” says Demetrios Anaipakos, an AZA partner and IP lawyer. “He is a tremendous trial lawyer and a great addition to our existing team of IP veterans.”

Mr. Simmons has represented clients in IP matters involving a wide variety of technologies, including computers and software, semiconductor manufacturing processing, telecommunications, oil and gas exploration and production, and medical devices. Mr. Simmons also advises clients on building, managing, and creating value from their patent portfolios.

Prior to joining AZA, Mr. Simmons worked as a partner at two international law firms. Before his legal career, he served as a Senior Research Chemist for Dow Plastics in the areas of polymer design, polymer processing and additives research.

“AZA has a formidable reputation and I’m pleased to not only join this firm, but also to know they won’t be across the aisle from me in court,” says Mr. Simmons. “They bring a distinct passion to each and every case, and fight tirelessly to help their clients.”

Mr. Simmons earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, and his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Texas Tech University.
