Hunton & Williams LLP is pleased to announce the expansion of its private investment funds practice with the arrival of Evan Williams as a lawyer in the Dallas office. Prior to joining Hunton & Williams, Evan served as an outsourced general counsel and chief compliance officer for alternative investment managers, including both private equity and hedge fund managers. Evan also has experience serving as an in-house lawyer and compliance officer at a multibillion-dollar registered investment adviser.

“We are excited about the addition of Evan and the expansion of our private investment funds practice,” said Jim Seevers, head of the firm’s private investment funds practice. “Evan will offer our existing private fund clients his wealth of experience in the increasingly complex and important area of regulatory compliance, which spans a variety of private equity, hedge fund and real estate investment structures. We are equally enthusiastic about growing our private funds practice in the Texas market, a vibrant and growing market for both the firm and the private fund industries we serve.”

Evan advises institutional investment advisers and private fund managers, including private equity and hedge fund managers, in connection with regulatory aspects of their operations, particularly relating to SEC regulation. He also advises clients with respect to structuring, operating, offering and investing in private equity funds and hedge funds across a wide spectrum of investment strategies, including emerging markets, global macro, energy, real estate and fund of funds.

The private investment funds practice at Hunton & Williams is an inter-disciplinary group of corporate, tax and ERISA lawyers that work together on all aspects of private investment funds and similar joint ventures and investment platforms. We regularly represent sponsors of (as well as investors in) private investment funds with a wide variety of strategies, including private equity, real estate, liquid securities, emerging markets, structured financial products, mortgage and other asset classes. We offer our clients a broad base of experience in fund structuring and formation as well as operational and regulatory compliance matters.
