Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated (“Cox Smith”), the largest law firm in San Antonio, today announced litigator Brent Bishop has joined the firm’s McAllen office.
Bishop has experience with matters relating to commercial litigation, banking litigation, oil and gas disputes, real estate litigation, probate and trust litigation, mass-tort/products liability defense litigation and personal injury defense litigation. He has handled commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts and before arbitration panels. Bishop’s banking litigation experience includes representation of local, regional, and national banks.
Bishop will work closely with Diann Bartek, managing shareholder of Cox Smith’s McAllen office, who has spent more than 30 years focused on commercial litigation, creditors’ rights and creditor representation in bankruptcy cases. Bartek represents major creditors, primarily banks and other financial institutions, in bankruptcy cases and is recognized for her knowledge and experience in such representation and in all aspects of bankruptcy related issues, including litigation of adversary proceedings and contested matters. Bishop will also work with Cox Smith shareholder Raymond Cowley on employment litigation matters. Cowley is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and works in the firm’s McAllen and San Antonio offices. Additionally, Bishop will work with Cox Smith attorneys in the San Antonio office on oil and gas litigation matters.
“Brent has worked in McAllen since 1996 and has represented Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, and local business owners and individuals in a wide variety of commercial litigation matters, litigation related to financial institutions, and oil and gas litigation matters,” said Bartek. “He will be an asset to our McAllen office and the entire firm as he has a breadth of experience in Cox Smith’s core practice areas.”
A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Arizona, Bishop received his J.D. degree from the Houston Law Center. He is a member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association and State Bar of Texas.
