Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, a counselor to global financial institutions and corporations, announced today that Tania S. Perez has joined the firm’s Energy and Commodities Practice and will be in the Houston office.

Perez focuses her practice on regulatory counseling and permitting related to energy infrastructure, and related transactional work, including commodity sale and purchase agreements, transportation agreements and construction agreements.

“Tania has emerged as a leader in her field, and we are excited that she has chosen to join us as partner,” said Pat Quinn, Cadwalader’s Managing Partner. “Her addition confirms the firm’s commitment to remaining a significant provider of sophisticated legal services to companies in the international energy and commodities space.”

Perez advises clients on the commercial arrangements of LNG and natural gas infrastructure projects. She has participated in more than 30 administrative proceedings involving the siting, construction and operation of LNG and natural gas pipeline and storage facilities, before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy. She also counsels clients on a wide range of regulatory compliance matters including administrative audits, standards of conduct and affiliate issues, and energy trading and risk management assessments and programs.

“Tania’s experience offers natural synergies with the present capabilities of our Energy and Commodities team, and further solidifies the Firm’s ability to guide clients on market-leading transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors,” said Paul Pantano, head of Cadwalader’s Energy and Commodities Group.

Perez’s arrival follows the addition of Chad Mills, a leading practitioner in structured energy and related transactions, to the Energy and Commodities Practice in Houston in March.

“Tania is bringing tremendous depth in gas, power and LNG,” said partner Chad Mills. “She will be one of the cornerstones of growth in Houston as we continue to expand to better serve our energy industry clients.”

Along with her recurrent recognition as a leading LNG and natural gas storage regulatory lawyer by Chambers USA, Perez has been named a New York Metro Rising Star in Energy and Natural Resources by Thompson Reuters and is listed in Who’s Who in American Law.

“As I surveyed the landscape, Cadwalader was the obvious choice to continue developing my practice,” said Perez. “The firm’s wide-ranging energy practice represents a compelling offering for clients and I look forward to working with lawyers throughout the firm to continue to advance its reputation in our industry.”

Cadwalader’s leading Energy and Commodities Practice has broad and deep experience in all forms of complex regulatory, compliance, transactional, investigations, and enforcement defense matters involving energy, metals, and agricultural commodities and related listed and over-the-counter derivatives. The team provides counsel to leading U.S. and international financial institutions; investment funds; oil, power and natural gas companies, producers, and developers; industrial and commercial customers; trade associations; commodity marketers; exchanges and clearing organizations.
