Barnes & Thornburg LLP announced today that Victor Vital has joined the firm as a partner in the Litigation Department, where he will work alongside Mark Bayer, who launched the firm’s Dallas office in June. Previously, Vital was a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig LLP.

“Victor is a deeply gifted trial lawyer who is passionate about trying cases and has achieved impressive results over the course of his career,” said Bayer, managing partner of the Dallas office. “In addition to his leading trial practice, Victor is a well-known civic leader with deep ties to the local business and non-profit communities. He is a person of great character and will be an invaluable asset as our team continues to grow in Dallas. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Vital’s arrival comes on the heels of partners Jon Hyland and Thomas Haskins, who joined Barnes & Thornburg in July and are members of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Litigation departments, respectively.

Vital’s trial work encompasses a wide range of practice areas, including securities, financial services, and pharmaceutical and healthcare. A former assistant district attorney, Vital has extensive experience in white collar criminal defense. He was inducted into Texas Lawyer’s Verdicts Hall of Fame for securing the largest Texas employment verdict of 2012, and other significant trial wins include a revocation of a bankruptcy debtor’s discharge in 2014 and the successful defense against fraud and contract claims stemming from a hospital asset purchase transaction.

Active in the Dallas community, Vital is involved in the Mayor’s Business/Arts Initiative, acts as the vice chair of the Dallas Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, and sits on the board of such organizations as the Dallas Education Foundation, Downtown Dallas, Inc., and the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Ft. Worth.

Vital earned his B.S.W. from Oakwood University and his J.D. from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law. He has served in several leadership roles for the Dallas Bar Association and is a fellow at the Dallas Bar Foundation, the Texas Bar Foundation, and the Litigation Counsel of America. Vital also received the Dallas Business Journal’s 2015 Minority Business Leader Award and is regularly recognized as one of area’s top attorneys by D Magazine.
