Award-winning investigative journalist Valeri C. Williams has joined national law firm Wilson Elser as of counsel in the firm’s Dallas office. Ms. Williams is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation and Employment & Labor practices.

“We are thrilled to have Valeri join the firm,” said Stratton Horres, regional managing partner of the firm’s Dallas office. “The synergies created from her diverse background as an investigative journalist, media consultant and lawyer have resulted in counsel with a keen eye able to evaluate matters from the perspective of each of these roles. The skill set that Valeri offers is truly unique and adds tremendous value to her clients, as well as the firm overall.

A two-time recipient of the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award, an Emmy and two Certificates of Excellence from Investigative Reporters & Editors, Ms. Williams became a lawyer in 2008 after a successful 20-year career in journalism.

Since becoming an attorney, Ms. Williams has built a litigation practice focused on employment and labor, insurance defense and complex commercial matters. She has represented clients in cases of trade secret misappropriation, employment discrimination, breach of contract, RICO and title insurance fraud in both state and federal court litigation as well as in arbitration and mediation.

Ms. William’s extensive communications and reputation management experience has helped clients in preparing to testify in depositions or at trial and respond to media exposure that may accompany a lawsuit. She is a committed litigator, but also seeks cost-effective alternatives that may better meet her clients’ needs.

Ms. Williams is admitted to practice in Texas. She graduated with honors from California State University, Long Beach (1983) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then graduated cum laude with her juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law (2008), where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and the articles editor for SMU International Law Review Association.
