Anthony F. Newton, an experienced corporate transactional attorney with a background in private middle-market energy-related transactions, has moved as a partner to Haynes and Boone, LLP as part of an expansion of the firm’s corporate and energy practices.

“Tony was attracted to the deep bench strength of the energy practice at Haynes and Boone,” saidBuddy Clark, head of the Energy Practice Group. “With his strong clients in oilfield and terminaling services, Tony is a terrific complement to our practice and will enhance our services to clients.”

Steven Buxbaum, head of the firm’s Corporate South Section, noted Mr. Newton’s clients are involved in both traditional and renewable energy fields. “Across the board, Tony brings us midstream experience and expanded exposure to the extremely active oilfield service sector,” he said. “In addition, his background with upstream finance meshes nicely with our current practice.”

Mr. Newton said he appreciated Haynes and Boone’s inside knowledge of the energy industry, which directed him toward discussions with the firm. “It’s not just the legal side, but the regulatory, credit and personal aspects that allow you to provide the client a lot better service,” he said. “That’s what I was looking for in a firm.”

Mr. Newton’s practice includes general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, finance, and taxation as it is involved in the structure of transactions.

He received his B.S. degree from Texas A&M and his J.D. cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center, where he was named to the Order of the Barons and served as the Senior Articles Editor for the Houston Law Review. Mr. Newton received his L.L.M. in taxation, with distinction, from the Georgetown University Law Center.
