A lawyer with significant in-house counsel experience has returned to Fulbright as partner.

Kevin McDonald returns to Fulbright’s Houston office after serving in management roles with the corporate legal departments at Cooper Industries, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Valero Energy Corporation.

He has extensive experience in litigation, corporate governance and crisis management.

“Kevin became a fine lawyer during his time at Fulbright, and we welcome him back to the firm,” said Steven B. Pfeiffer, the Chair of Fulbright’s Executive Committee. “Kevin has proven leadership abilities, and he will be a tremendous asset to the litigation and corporate governance practices.”

A recipient of the Texas General Counsel Forum‘s Magna Stella Award for Best Up and Comer in 2008, McDonald was senior vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer for Cooper Industries, where he counseled its board of directors and senior management on legal, compliance, risk management and legislative topics.

“I am pleased to return to Fulbright and continue my career where it began,” said McDonald, who most recently served as president and chief executive officer at Arms of Hope, a non-profit organization. “I believe my experience in corporate legal department management gives me a unique view that will prove helpful in assisting our clients.”

McDonald started his career at Fulbright in 1992, working in Fulbright’s Houston and Austin offices for a decade. After Fulbright, he became managing counsel for Valero Energy Corporation, where he built and managed the litigation department. McDonald then went to Anadarko Petroleum Corporation as associate general counsel, where he managed global litigation and provided support for commercial transactions and corporate compliance issues.

“Kevin possesses a wealth of experience from working in-house at some of Fulbright’s top clients, and this type of insight is immeasurable,” said Otway Denny, chair of Fulbright’s Litigation Department. “He will use his general counsel perspective along with his past Fulbright experience to develop solutions for our clients.”

Honored with the Houston Bar Association’s President’s Award in 1998, McDonald received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and his B.A. from Texas A&M University.
