Texas is home to many high-tech industries due to the prevalence of oil and gas in the state. As such, companies specializing in this subject matter need lawyers and legal professionals to draft copyright and patent claims, advise business leaders in matters involving regulatory compliance and serve many other needs. The major cities in Texas are often home to a number of technology focused law offices, and the Austin metro area is no exception. Recently, a major firm announced its intention to open a new branch in the state’s capital.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Wick Phillips Gould & Martin, LLP will be expanding into the Austin area from previously-established offices in Dallas and Fort Worth. This law firm has more than 16 years of experience in the high-tech legal industry, and recently appointed veteran lawyer Shauna Martin as a partner in the practice’s new branch.
The new office in Austin will have to deal with high-profile cases that may well require a significant amount of negotiation. For example, Pegasus News reported on an ongoing case involving the proposed Arts Center of Northern Texas in Frisco. Law firm Bourland, Wall & Wenzel was hired as an outside consultant after a lack of funds caused legal controversy.
“It is not about asking the law firm to do a specific thing, it is more about asking them what can be done — what is allowed and what is not allowed. We need all three cities to understand what their options are as we continue to look at this,” said Frisco Mayor Maher Maso, according to the news source.
